International Quit&Win 2004
2–29 May 2004International Quit&Win 2004 is a smoking cessation competition which will be held in May 2004 in some 100 countries world wide. For more information about Quit&Win in your country please contact your country Quit&Win organizer.
Adult daily smokers (and other tobacco users) who have smoked for at least one year can take part in the contest. They try to abstain from smoking and using tobacco products for a four-week period, from May 2 to 29.
The National Public Health Institute (KTL), Finland, has coordinated international Quit&Win campaigns every other year since 1994 in collaboration with the World Health Organization. The number of smokers participating in Quit&Win has rapidly grown from 60 000 in 1994 to nearly 700 000 in 2002. The next International Quit&Win campaign will be organized in 2004 with the target of involving up to one million tobacco users in 100 countries from all continents.

Professor Pekka Puska presented the super prize of USD 10.000 to Karl-Heinz Evers in Berlin
Regional prizes of USD 2.500 went to Togo, Sudan, Greece, Canada, India and China.
The final number of participating countries is 73 with 80 different campaigns and 686 866 smokers.
The Coordinating Centre asks every national organizer to report participant numbers.

Rules in short — The fifth International Quit&Win campaign will be organized in May 2004, with the actual starting point (=quit date) being on May 2, 2004.Criteria for participation — Quit&Win 2004 is open for all countries. Within the countries a collaborative coalition is encouraged for the implementation of the campaign.Entry form — Participants must register by filling in an entry form and send it to the local campaign centre no later than the quit day.Prizes — Each country arranges its own prizes, with emphasis on the main prize. The national draw will take place among eligible registrants.Implementation — The organizers shall distribute the entry forms to the potential participants using various channels.Optional supporters' competition — In addition to the core Quit&Win competition, an optional supporters’ contest can be organized for non-smokers.Optional Health Professionals' Competition — An optional contest for health professionals is recommended in connection with the core Quit&Win competition.Evaluation — A one-year follow-up study to assess the abstinence rates and to evaluate the campaign should be carried out by the participating countries.International Coordination — The International Quit&Win Coordinating Centre will perform the coordination of the campaign and of its international evaluation.Règlement du concours — Règlement du concours International Quit&Win 2004 — the French-language rules.Campaign record
